Bismarck, ND – The Montana
State University-Billings men’s soccer team had no problem with
second half play in their 4-1 win over University of Mary on
Sunday in Bismarck. The win improves the Jackets to 2-5-0 on
the season.
“I am very pleased with the
team’s response after losing yesterday to Sioux Falls,” said
head coach Dan McNally. “It is the best performance for the
team so far this season considering that we have had seven very
tough road games in just 16 days,” McNally added.
The Jackets led 2-0 at the
half with Freshman Nick
Slanina (Fr., F, Rapid City, SD) putting in a pair of goals
at the 30:00 and 37th minute. The two goals were
unassisted and are Slanina’s first of his collegiate career.
The Jackets struck again in the 47th minute with Travis Poulson (Jr., F, Walla Walla, WA) assisting Dustin
Kono (Sr., F, Aberdeen, SD) in his fifth consecutive game of
scoring at least one goal. Kono broke the school record for
consecutive games with at least one goal scored in yesterdays
match-up against Sioux Falls. Poulson earned his second assist
of the game at the 58 minute mark on a goal put up by Marcus Riley (Sr., MF, Kalispell, MT). The University of
Mary made their only goal of the day in the 70th minute.
Both Mary and the Jackets put
up 14 shots apiece with MSUB making nine shots on goal. The
Jackets goalkeeper Jess
Feldtman (Sr., Lander, WY) made six saves on the day to the
Mauraders five.
“The players are looking
forward to 10 days of practice before hosting Incarnate Word on
September 21 for the team’s home opener,” said McNally. “The
team is improving all the time and we hope to continue to
improve over the course of the season.”
The Jackets will host
Incarnate Word on Wednesday September 21 at 1:00 p.m. to open
the season at home. The game will be played at COT field. |
