GOLDEN, CO – The Montana State-Billings
men’s soccer team allowed four second half goals Sunday
afternoon, falling to Colorado School of Mines, 4-0. The
Yellowjackets dropped to 0-2-0 on the season while the
Orediggers remained unbeaten at 2-0-0.
The Yellowjacket defense held the Diggers
scoreless for the first 56 minutes before allowing four goals
in a span of just 30 minutes in the second half. CSM out-shot
MSU Billings 11-3 in the second half and 19-7 in the game.
Yellowjacket goalkeeper Jess Feldtman (Sr., Lander, WY) made six saves in the
game.
After a scoreless first half, the
Orediggers struck just 13 minutes into the second half on a
Jeff Perkins goal at 56:55. That was followed by Rafael
Ribeiro’s third goal of the season in the 65th minute. The Orediggers added to their cushion with a Craig
Thompson goal at 70:38 and a Nick Clausnitzer goal at 86:03.
"It was 0-0 at
halftime and it was a very even game," said head coach Dan
McNally. "We had some opportunities to score in the
first half. We were in great shape until the 57th
minute. After they scored we lost our confidence."
The Yellowjackets’ Marcus Riley (Sr., Kalispell, MT) and Dustin Kono (Sr., Aberdeen, SD) had two shots apiece in
the game. Kono, Nick Slanina (Fr., Rapid City, SD) and Matt
D’Hont (So., Rapid City, SD) each had a shot on goal. The
Diggers’ Kevin Galloway made three saves for the win.
"I was very happy with
our performance in the first half," added McNally. "We
carried on what we started against Metro State.
Unfortunately in the second half we didn't do ourselves
justice. We lost concentration at times and we paid the
price. We'll learn from the experience."
MSU Billings returns to the road next
weekend for the Westminster College tournament in Salt Lake
City. The Jackets will face Cal State-Monterey Bay,
Colorado-Colorado Springs, and Westminster College at the
three day tournament that runs September 2-4. |
