Jacket Soccer Plays Tough in Season Opener (8/26/05)

DENVER, CO – The Montana State-Billings men's
soccer team struck first on Friday, but fell to Metropolitan
State of Denver, 2-1. The game was the season opener for
both teams.
The Jackets' goal came at 30:19 of the first half. The ball was sent into the box on a
free kick from Marcus Riley (Sr., MF, Kalispell, MT) to Victor Sargent (Jr., MF, Billings,
MT) who headed the ball into the net. This goal gave the Yellowjackets a 1-0 advantage at
halftime.
This goal was Sargent’s first
on the season and fourth of his career. The Jackets had just three
shots on goal in the game. MSU Billings goalkeeper Jess
Feldtman (Sr., Lander, WY) made seven
saves.
Held scoreless in the first
half, the Roadrunners overcame the deficit with
two second half goals. The first goal came in at 52:34 from Aldo Alcaraz-Reza. Roadrunner Phillip Owen
scored the game winning goal with 26:54 remaining in the
game.
“The team played fantastic
today,” said Yellowjacket head coach Dan McNally. “I am very
pleased with the team’s performance. They gave a top 25 team a
true test. Jess Feldtman was outstanding in
goal, and if we play with this same commitment and organization
against School of Mines we will be fine. We will need to build
on what we did today.”

Denver to take on Colorado School of Mines Sunday at 1:00 p.m. |
