Larson Nabs Fourth at Kickingbird Classic (3/28/06)

EDMOND, OK – Montana State-Billings men’s golfer Nick Larson led the Yellowjackets to a tenth place finish in the team competition at the Kickingbird Classic held in Edmond, Oklahoma March 28.  The Jackets slid one spot overall for a 54-hole combined total of 892 (303, 291, 298).

The host team University of Central Oklahoma overtook Northeastern State, the leader after day one, to finish with a three-round combined total of 836 (286, 272, 278).  Northeastern shot rounds of 278, 273, and 289 for a combined 840.  St. Mary’s University rounded out the third spot with 281, 287, and 278 for 846.  The Yellowjackets finished with a three-round total 892 (303, 291, 298).

Jamie Amoretti of St. Mary’s was tied after day one but a one-under par 69 in today’s round gave Amoretti sole possession atop the leader board shooting 65, 70, and 69 (204).  Blake Slaughter of St. Edward’s shot 69, 68, and 68, good enough for a total 205 and second place.  Third place belonged to Mitch Boles of the host team Central Oklahoma.  Boles shot a 72, 66, and 69 (207).  The Jackets’ Nick Larson (So., Riverton, WY) shot his way to a three-way tie for fourth.  Larson shot rounds of 70, 70, and two-under 68 for a 208.

The Jackets next competition will be in Denver, Colorado April 2 and 3.  Colorado School of Mines and Regis University will play host.
