Jacket Golfers Ninth After Day One (3/27/06)

EDMOND, OK-  The Montana State-Billings men’s golf team stands in ninth place in the team competition at the University of Central Oklahoma Kickingbird Classic.  The Jackets have completed 36 holes at the 6,722 yard, par 70 course.  The final 18 holes will be contested Tuesday March, 28.

Leading the team competition is Northeastern State who shot rounds of 278 and 273 for a combined 551.  The host team Central Oklahoma stands in second with a 10-stroke lead over third place St. Mary’s.  Central Oklahoma shot rounds of 286 and 272 for a 558 while St. Mary’s shot 281 and 287 for 568.  The Yellowjackets shot a 303 after the first 18 and were able to shave 12 strokes off their second round total for a 291 and a combined 594 tying them for ninth with East Central University.

There is a tie atop the leader board between Northeastern’s Brad Risenhoover and St. Mary’s Jamie Amoretti.  Risenhoover shot rounds of 69 and 66 for 135 while Amoretti shot a low round five under par 65 and a second round 70 (135).  Blake Slaughter of St. Edward’s holds the third spot with a combined 137 (69, 68). The Yellowjackets’ Nick Larson is in a tie for eighth with two rounds of par for a 140.

The Jackets wrap up at the Kickingbird Classic March 28 and will be home one short week before competing at the Colorado School of Mines and Regis University Invite April 2 and 3 in Denver, Colorado.
