Larson Ends Seventh at Heartland Tournament (4/19/06)
GUYMON, OK- The Montana
State-Billings men’s golf team wrapped up a fifth place
team finish at the 2006 Heartland Conference Tournament
hosted by Oklahoma Panhandle State University. The
54-hole tournament was played at the par-70 Sunset Hills
Golf Course in Guymon, Oklahoma.
Western New Mexico held onto their
slim lead to clinch first place in the team competition
carding a three-round total 847. The team shot a
54-hole seven-over par with rounds of 277, 280, and 290
finishing two strokes ahead of second place St. Mary’s.
St. Mary’s shot 272, 290, and 287 for a combined 849.
Rounding out the third spot was St. Edward’s with rounds
of 282, 281, and 288 (851). The Yellowjackets
maintained their fifth place standing carding rounds of
294, 291, and 309 (894).
The Jackets’ Nicholas Larson (So., Riverton, WY) continued his
charge shooting a six over for the tournament. Larson
shot a two-under 68 in round one, a three-over 73 for
round two and wrapped up the competition with a
five-over 75, totaling 216. Jeff Howard of St. Edward’s
took top honors finishing five-under for the tournament
with rounds of 68, 67, and 70 for 205. Jason Meyers of
Western New Mexico shot a three-under 66, 69, and 72 for
207. Blake Slaughter of St. Edward’s finished third
shooting a three round total 209 (68, 71, and 70).
