Jackets Stumble Against Oklahoma Panhandle (2/22/06)
Box Score

GOODWELL, OK – The Yellowjackets' typical style is to run a fast-pace offensive game against their opponents. Oklahoma Panhandle didn’t let that happen Wednesday and were able to slow the game taking the advantage away from the Jackets.  The Yellowjackets fell 80-60 to the Aggies in Goodwell.  The loss drops the Jackets to 19-5 overall and 9-2 in the Heartland Conference.  The Aggies are on an eight-game winning streak and have improved to 9-17 and 6-5 in league play.

The Jackets’ bench saw ample playing time and contributed a combined 18 points.  Leading the Yellowjacket scorers was Buddy Windy Boy (Sr., Lodge Grass, MT) with 14 points.  Windy Boy shot 4-of-12 from the perimeter and drove in five buckets.  Carlin Hughes (So., Perth, Australia) added 10 points on 4-of-10 shooting from the field.  Hughes connected on 2-of-7 from 3-point range, grabbed three steals and handed out five assists.  Cameron Munoz (Sr., Chino, CA) was held to just one 3-pointer in his quest for the NCAA record of career 3-pointers made.  Munoz needs seven to tie the record and eight for sole possession.  Drew Arnold (So., Phoenix, AZ) came off the bench to knock down a career-high two 3-pointers for eight points.  As a team the Yellowjackets shot 20-of 61 from the field.  They connected on 12-of-40 from the perimeter and 8-of-12 from the charity stripe.

“We don’t have an excuse,” said Yellowjacket head coach Craig Carse.  “We just needed to play a little better.  Our guys are tired both emotionally and physically and are giving everything they have coming to the end of the regular season.  Hopefully we can do just a little bit more.”

The Aggies were led by William Preston with 21 points.  Preston shot 8-of-16 from the field and grabbed eight boards.  Tim Anderson added 16 points.  Eddie Moss handed out a game-high 10 assists.  As a team the Aggies shot 32-of-69 from the field, 10-of-23 from 3-point range and 6-of-11 from the line.

The Yellowjackets travel to Silver City, New Mexico to face the Mustangs in the final two games of the regular season.  The game Friday, February 24 will be the final conference game for the Jackets.  Saturday’s match will be a non-conference regional counter.  Tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. MST following the women’s game at 5:30 p.m.  Listen live on 970 KBUL or log onto the Yellowjacket Athletics website.  The Jackets are guaranteed at least one playoff game at home.  The game is set for Wednesday, March 1 at Alterowitz Gymnasium.  Tip off for that game is 7:30 p.m.  Purchase your tickets in advance by calling the Yellowjacket Athletics department at 657-2369
