Jackets’ Wohlers Tabbed by Heartland (12/26/05)
BILLINGS, MT – Montana State-Billings senior Moritz Wohlers has been named the Heartland Conference player
of the week for the week of December 19-25. Wohlers is a 6-foot-8
center
from Wolfenbuttel, Germany. He is the
Yellowjackets' third player of the week winner this season.
Cameron Munoz and Buddy Windy Boy have also received the award.
With his parents in attendance while visiting
from Germany, Wohlers scored a career-high 33 points to lead
MSU Billings to a 118-110 win over Emporia State (KS) on Monday.
For the Yellowjackets it was their first-ever South Central Region
game since joining the Heartland Conference.
Emporia State, ranked in the national top 20
all season until this week, had no answer for Wohlers in the
paint. He was 8-of-13 from the field and 17-of-20 from the free
throw line. He also grabbed 14 rebounds to post a double-double.
Wohlers’s previous season-highs were 16 points and 11 rebounds.
He now ranks fourth in the Heartland for scoring (18.0) and leads
the league in rebounding (10.0). Wohlers also ranks in the
conference’s top 10 for field goal percentage (7th), steals (6th),
and free throw percentage (10th).
The Yellowjackets (5-0) will continue
regional play this week when they travel to the Texas
A&M-Kingsville Holiday Classic. MSU Billings will face East
Central University (OK) on Thursday and Texas A&M-Kingsville on
Friday. Both games will be broadcast on AM 970 in Billings and on
the web. |
