Munoz Named Heartland Player of the Week (2/7/06)
BILLINGS, MT – Montana State-Billings senior
guard Cameron Munoz has been named the Heartland Conference player
of the week by the league office. The award is Munoz’s third of
the season and the seventh conference player of the week honor for
an MSU Billings player this season.
Munoz averaged 25.0 points and 6.5 made
3-pointers a game to lead MSU Billings to a pair of wins over
Lincoln. On Friday he scored 19 points and dished out six assists
as the Yellowjackets won 128-82 to remain unbeaten in the
Heartland Conference at 7-0. In Saturday’s 99-85 non-conference
win over the Blue Tigers, Munoz scored a game-high 31, hitting
8-of-15 from behind the arc and 7-of-8 from the free throw line.
For the week Munoz was 13-of-27 from 3-point
range and 9-of-10 from the line. He also had seven assists and
three steals. With his fourth 3-pointer on Saturday Munoz became
just sixth player in NCAA Division II history to make 400 career
3-pointers. Munoz’s 404 career 3-pointers currently tie him for
fifth all-time in Division II history. With eight regular season
games remaining, Munoz is 39 three-pointers short of the all-time
DII record of 443 set last year by Stephen Dye of
Alderson-Broaddus. Munoz currently ranks first in the Heartland
for scoring, first for 3-point percentage, first for 3-pointers
per game, second for free throw percentage, and tenth for field
goal percentage.
The Yellowjackets travel to Austin, Tex.,
this week for two important games against St. Edward’s
University. The Jackets and Hilltoppers will play a critical
Heartland Conference game on Friday with first place in the league
on the line. They will meet again in a non-conference game on
Saturday. Both games are scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m. MST and
will be aired on AM 970 in Billings and on the internet at
