Four Yellowjackets Earn All-Conference Honors (3/6/06)

BILLINGS, MT – Four men’s basketball players
from Montana State University-Billings were named to All-Heartland
Conference teams on Monday. The Yellowjackets, who were regular
season co-champions and runners-up in the conference playoffs,
placed two players on the first team, one on the second team, and
one on the honorable mention team.
Seniors Cameron Munoz (Chino, CA) and Moritz Wohlers (Wolfenbuttel, Germany) were selected to the
All-Heartland Conference First Team. They were joined by David
Lunn of St. Edward’s, Joe Allen of St. Mary’s, and Aaron Harrison
of Oklahoma Panhandle State. Lunn was named the Heartland
Conference player of the year and the newcomer of the year.
Munoz led the league in scoring and 3-point
shooting and was named the conference player of the week three
times. He averaged 21.8 points and 5.25 made 3-pointers per game
while shooting 43.5 percent from behind the arc. Munoz led the
nation in 3-pointers made for the season and broke the all-time
NCAA Division II career 3-point record. He finished his career
with 451 triples, eight more than the previous record of 443 set
by Stephen Dye of Alderson-Broaddus. Munoz also ranked in the
Heartland’s top 15 for field goal percentage and free throw
percentage.
Wohlers
earned first team honors in his first and only season with the
Yellowjackets. The 6-foot-9 transfer ranked second in the
conference for scoring and third for rebounding, averaging 19.4
ppg and 8.0 rpg. A two-time Heartland Conference player of the
week, Wohlers also ranked in the top 15 in the conference for
field goal percentage, free throw percentage, blocked shots, and
offensive rebounds.
Sophomore guard Carlin Hughes (Perth, Australia) was the only Yellowjacket
selected to the All-Heartland Conference second team. The
conference and national leader for assists, Hughes averaged 9.61
assist per game. He also ranked third in the conference for
scoring at 17.3 ppg. Hughes broke the MSUB single
season school record with 269 assists.
Senior guard Buddy Windy Boy (Lodge Grass, MT) earned honorable mention
honors. He ranked twelfth in the league for scoring and second
for 3-pointers made. Windy Boy also finished third in school
history for career 3-pointers with 305.
