Montalban, Larsen Lead Jacket Golfers (9/27/05)
BILLINGS,
MT – Top five finishes from Halley Montalban and Nicholas
Larson highlighted the Yellowjacket golf teams’ first
action of the season. Montalban finished fourth in the
ladies’ draw at the Rocky Mountain College Invitational.
Larson finished second on the men’s side by just two
strokes.
Montalban
(So., Billings, MT) shot a 79 on Tuesday to slip from
third to fourth. She carded rounds of 83 and 76 on Monday
to finish with a three-round total of 238. The Lady
Jackets’ next best finish came from Nicole Salsbery (So.,
Malta, MT) who shot 86, 87, and 89 for a 262.
Larson
(So., Riverton, WY) finished Monday’s two rounds in a tie
with Rocky Mountain’s Jared Atkins. Atkins carded a 67 in
Tuesday’s final round, edging out Larson’s 69. Larson
finished with an 8-under 205. The Jackets’ next best
finisher was Zach Abels (So., Twin Falls, ID) who had
rounds of 68, 71, and 73 for a 1-under 212,
good for seventh place in the individual standings.
Both
Yellowjacket teams will next be in action October 6 and 7
when they face Rocky Mountain College in the first half of
the annual Billings Collegiate Cup at Peter Yegen Golf
Course. The event is a match play contest that does not
count toward season scoring averages or toward qualifying
for the NCAA Tournament. The October 6 matches will be
two-person best ball matches. On October 7 the squads
will square off in individual match play. The second half
of the Collegiate Cup will be played in the spring at The
Briarwood, the Jackets’ home course.
The
Yellowjacket men will face their first NCAA competition of
the year October 10-11 when they play at the St. Mary’s
Invitational in San Antonio. The Lady Jackets’ first
regional event will be October 10-11 at the Western
Washington Invitational in Bellingham, Wash.
