MSU Billings Hires Cheer Coach (10/26/05)
BILLINGS, MT – Dr. Gary Gray,
Director of Intercollegiate Athletics at Montana
State University-Billings, announced Wednesday that
the school has hired Tracie Overberg as its new head
cheer coach. Overberg will begin immediately.
“I’m very pleased Tracie has
accepted our offer to become our new Head Cheer
Coach,” said Gray. “She brings a wealth of
experience from both cheerleading and dance
backgrounds. I know Tracie will provide excellent,
energetic leadership for our co-ed cheer team, and
we look forward to seeing them at basketball games
very soon.”
Overberg was a member of the
Yellowjacket Cheer Team from 2001 to 2003. She was
also a member of the Billings Outlaws Cheer Team in
2003-2004.
Overberg has already scheduled
cheer team tryouts for Monday, November 7. They
will take place at 7:00 p.m. in Alterowitz Gym.
Those interested can contact her at 690-3341. The
tryouts will include two cheer and one dance routine.
“I wanted to do this because
I’ve seen what the program has done the last four
years,” said Overberg. “I’ve seen the potential it
has. It would be a shame for there not to be a team
this year because they performed so well last year.
This year will be a rebuilding year for us. We’ll
start with a cheer and dance emphasis and build up
our stunting levels progressively as the year goes
on.”
The Yellowjacket Cheer Team
primarily performs at MSU Billings men’s and women’s
basketball games. The basketball regular seasons
begin at MSU Billings November 18 and 19 when the
Lady Yellowjackets host the Holiday Inn/Chinook
Wireless Yellowjacket Classic. The Yellowjacket men
will open at home November 21 against Johnson &
Wales. |
