Jackets Shut Out by Hilltoppers (3/12/06)

AUSTIN, TX- The Montana
State-Billings baseball team dropped back-to-back games Sunday
against St. Edward’s University, 8-0, and 9-0. The loss drops
the Yellowjackets to 0-14 overall and 0-10 in the Heartland
Conference. The Hilltoppers are unbeaten in the Heartland
Conference early in the season at 6-0 and are 10-8 overall.
In the first game of the
doubleheader the Jackets allowed the Hilltopppers a run in the
second getting them on the board and then three runs each in the
third and fifth innings rounding out the 8-0 win with a run in
the sixth. Nathan
Herbig (Jr., Noxon, MT) took the loss and is 0-4. Herbig
allowed seven runs on nine hits in 4.2 innings. Doug
Longfellow (Jr., Lewistown, MT) was 1-for-3 hitting a
triple. Nick Hoskyn (Jr., Oelwein, IA) was 1-for-3 and Jake
Samuelson (Jr., Helena, MT) was 1-for-2. The Hilltoppers
McKay was 3-for-4 with one run and three RBI. Lozano earned the
win allowing just three hits in five innings of work.
The Jackets showed bright
spots in game two but were unable to keep it together allowing
the Hilltoppers to score all nine runs in just two innings.
Eight St. Edward’s players combined for the teams scoring effort
and were led by Wood and McKay both going 2-for-4 with a run
each and two RBI. The Jackets were led by Kyle Pryor (Jr., Billings, MT) who was 2-for-3 and had one stolen
base. Luke Sansaver (Jr., Wolf Point, MT) also had a stolen base. Chris
Martin (Jr., Billings, MT) took the loss for the Jackets and
is 0-4 on the season. Martin allowed eight runs on nine hits.
Plant took the win for the Hilltoppers.
The Yellowjackets will round
out their swing through Texas playing St. Edward’s again on
Monday. The first game is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. The
Yellowjackets will then return home to begin a six-game home
stand starting with Northwest Nazarene on March 17. First pitch
is 12:00 p.m. at Cobb Field. |
