Jacket Baseball Starts Tough Road Swing (2/28/06)
BILLINGS, MT – The Montana State-Billings
baseball team begins its toughest road swing of the season with a
doubleheader at St. Mary’s University on Thursday. The
Yellowjackets will play 12 Heartland Conference road games between
March 2 and March 13.
The Jackets’ doubleheaders at St. Mary’s
(5-4) on Thursday and Friday will be aired on the web starting at
2:45 p.m MST at www.stmarytx.edu/athletics. MSU Billings will play at
Incarnate Word on March 7 and 8 before wrapping up the trip at St.
Edward’s in Austin on March 12 and 13. The games at St. Edward’s
will be aired on the web at www.stedwards.edu/athletics.
The Yellowjackets (0-4) started the season
last weekend at Northwest Nazarene University, dropping
back-to-back doubleheaders. Sophomore Mike Wardell (Billings, MT)
provided one of the Jackets’ bright spots in the program’s first
games since 1975. Wardell batted .462 for the weekend, going
6-for-13 at the plate and scoring three runs.
Yellowjacket pitchers had a rocky start to
the season, posting an 8.04 earned run average. The Crusaders hit
five home runs in the four games and batted a combined .324.
After the 12-game swing to Texas,
MSU Billings will open its home schedule on March 17 against
Northwest Nazarene. First pitch for the home opener is scheduled
for noon. On Thursday, March 16, the team will host a media
day/fan social at 4:00 p.m. at Buffalo Wild Wings on 24th Street West. |
