Two Jackets Named Heartland POTW (3/28/06)
BILLINGS, MT – When you pitch
well, it gets noticed. Montana State-Billings baseball players
David Ducharme and Ben Lewerke were tabbed as the Heartland
Conference Co-Pitchers of the week for the week of March 27.
Ducharme,
a senior right handed pitcher from Hamilton, Montana has now
pitched back-to-back complete games for the Jackets that paid
off with two “W’s” in the win column. Ducharme pitched a
one-hit shutout against Heartland Conference opponent Oklahoma
Panhandle March 26 leading the Jackets to the 2-0 victory. In
that game Ducharme struck out two batters and no player advanced
past second base.
Lewerke,
a junior left hand pitcher from Mason City, Iowa chalked up his
first MSUB win against the Aggies March 26 in Goodwell,
Oklahoma. Lewerke pitched a complete game shutout and struck
out three to lead the Jackets to a cool 8-0 win.
The Jackets have now won three
conference games in a row and are hoping to add to that tally
with wins against Lincoln University. The Jackets and Blue
Tigers square off on the mound March 28 and 29 in Jefferson
City, Missouri. Following this road trip, the Yellowjackets
will be back at Cobb Field to host St. Edward’s University April
7 and 8 in doubleheader action. |
