No. 8 Hawaii Pacific Sweeps Lady Jackets (Sept. 28, 2004)

HONOLULU, HI – The eighth-ranked Hawaii
Pacific volleyball team swept MSU Billings Tuesday night to remain
unbeaten in PacWest Conference play. The Sea Warriors won 30-27,
30-20, 32-30 to improve to 4-0 in the PacWest and 10-1 overall.
MSU Billings dropped to 1-2 in the conference and 8-4 overall.
The Yellowjackets’ Olivia Munro (Sr., OH,
Toronto, Ontario) led all players with 22 kills and 11 digs. She
currently leads the PacWest in digs and is second for kills.
Jessica Bratton (So., OH, Casper, WY) and
Alicia Cazemier (Fr., MB, Vauxhall, Alberta) also recorded
double-digit kills for the Jackets. Bratton finished with 16, and
Cazemier added 10.
Despite the three-game sweep, the
Yellowjackets still hit a solid .286 as a team. Hawaii Pacific
hit .375 behind 14 kills from Barbara Martin. Martin had no
errors on 23 attempts for a .609 hitting percentage. Martin leads
the conference in individual hitting percentage, and the Sea
Warriors have the top team hitting percentage in the league.
The Sea Warriors had 12 total team blocks in
the match to increase their conference lead over the Yellowjackets
in team blocks per game. MSU Billings wasn’t credited with a
block in the match, dropping their season average to 2.28.
Cazemier is second in the conference for individual blocks behind
Martin, who was in on five blocks Tuesday night.
Natalie Bills (So., S, Provo, UT) handed out
41 assists to maintain her narrow conference lead in assists per
game. HPU’s Vera Oliveira had 48 assists and is now just 0.14
assists per game behind Bills in the conference statistical
rankings.
The Yellowjackets continue PacWest play in
Hawaii on Friday when they play at third place Chaminade (7-3,
2-1). They wrap up the trip on Saturday at Hawaii-Hilo (4-9,
1-3). |
