Lady Jacket Tennis Drops First Road Match (Feb. 14, 2005)
LEWISTON, ID - The Montana State
University-Billings women’s tennis team dropped their
first road match of the spring season in a tri-meet
against Lewis Clark State College and Linfield College
Friday and Saturday in Lewiston, Idaho.
The Lady Jackets took on Lewis and
Clark in singles and doubles play on Friday and were
downed 8-1 by the Warriors. A second match between
MSU Billings and Lewis and Clark was held Friday evening
where three Yellowjacket singles players won their
matches. The team, however, fell for the second time
6-3. The Jackets lost a tight match against Linfield
where they fell 5-4 in a tight match played on Saturday
at Lewis and Clark State College.
“We played our first spring
semester match with three freshman, two sophomore, and
two seniors,” said head coach Jerry Peach. “Our doubles
played well, but did not score any team points and our
singles play was inconsistent. Margot Merrill-Johnson
played hard whether she was up or down and was able to
find her opponents weakness to get her wins,” Peach
added. “In our matches against Linfield we really
raised our level of play. This was a tough college
match as there were six sets that were decided by
tie-breaks. I was proud of the way that our freshman
played. Although they came up short, their play was
inspired and I believe their games will mature by the
end of the semester.”
Both MSU Billings teams travel to
Denver, Colorado for a Spring Break tour invitational
March 4-13.
