Box Score
BILLINGS, MT – The Montana State-Billings
women’s soccer team controlled the game from wire to wire Saturday
in a 5-0 win over Jamestown College. The Yellowjackets tied the
school record for wins in a season, improving to 9-3-1. Jamestown
fell to 9-4-0.
The Jackets started the scoring frenzy at
21:20 when Margot
Merrill-Johnson (Sr., MF, Salt Lake City, UT) kicked a through
ball for Ally
Taylor (So., MF, Ojai, CA) who scored the first of two goals. Jenny Moellendorf (So., F, Green River, WY) scored her first
collegiate goal at 31:13 on a cross in front of the net from Candy
Cherry (Sr. F, Missoula, MT), giving the Jackets a 2-0 lead at
the break.
Brittany Sandau (Fr., MF, Billings, MT) scored an unassisted
goal, her third of the season, in the 50th minute of
the game. Sandau also had an assist to Merrill-Johnson for the
Lady Jackets’ fourth goal of the game coming at 62:58. Ally Taylor
scored her second goal of the game at 67:54 from an assist by
Margot Merrill-Johnson with a shot from 5 yards outside the box.
The Lady Jackets had 34 shots to the Jimmies’

had 15 saves on the day with Megan
Plank (So., GK, Phoenix, AZ) making four saves for the
Yellowjackets.
Merrill-Johnson and Taylor are tied for the
team lead with seven goals apiece. Merrill-Johnson leads the
Yellowjackets with 18 points. Taylor follows close behind with 17
points. Alyssa Wolfer (So., F, Longmont, CO), and Sandau are tied with
11 points each.
“It was a fun game, and we expected to play
well today,” said Jenny Moellendorf. “We needed this win against
a tough team to keep up our confidence. I think our game against
Grand Canyon will give us a chance to prove we are playing well
and doing what we are capable.”
“The goal came up on a perfect pass from
Brittany to score the goal,” said Margot Merrill-Johnson. “We
played solid and had just a few moments where we slacked off.
That is something we have been working on. We have never played
Grand Canyon before so this should be an exciting game tomorrow.”
Yellowjackets head coach Don Trentham said,
“This was one of our better performances of the season and it was
nice to get the shutout. The midfielders and forwards created
good chances for the team today. Our game against Grand Canyon
tomorrow will be exciting because a win would break the school
record for wins in a season. We are also still unbeaten at home
and it would be nice to continue that pattern.”
Parent/Alumni weekend continues Sunday when
the Lady Jackets meet the Grand Canyon Antelopes (2-9) at MSUB
College of Technology at 1:00 p.m.
