BILLINGS, MT – The Montana State-Billings
women’s soccer team dropped a 3-1 exhibition decision at the
University of Montana on Sunday in the Yellowjackets’ only
exhibition match of the preseason. The Lady Griz scored two
second half goals to pull away from a 1-1 halftime tie.
Both offenses started fast, with Montana
scoring first at 7:07 on a Lindsay Winans header off a corner
kick. The Jackets’ Ally Taylor (So., MF, Ojai, CA) tied the game
on an unassisted goal at 14:25. Taylor outraced the Grizzly
defense and beat the goalkeeper one-one-one for the tying goal.
Montana took the lead for good just five
minutes into the second half when Stephanie Davis scored on a
put-back at 50:04. Tara Schwager added the insurance goal at
62:27 on a put-back of her own shot.
The Griz out shot the Yellowjackets 17-6 in
the match, with an 8-4 shots on goal advantage. Taylor had two of
the Jackets’ four shots on goal.
Megan Plank (So., GK, Phoenix, AZ) started in
goal for the Yellowjackets, playing 60 minutes. She allowed two
of UM’s goals and made three saves. Alyssa Wolfer (So., GK/F, Longmont, CO) played the final 20 minutes, allowing one goal and
making two saves.
The Yellowjackets open the regular season on
Friday when they face Bemidji State in St. Cloud, MN. They will
play St. Cloud State on Sunday in the final game of the three-day
tournament.
