Lady Jackets Bounce Back with Win at Humboldt Tourney (Dec. 11, 2004)
Box Score
ARCATA, CA – The Montana State-Billings
women’s basketball team rebounded from Friday’s loss to Chico
State with a convincing 81-58 victory against Southern Oregon on
Saturday. The win improved the Lady Jackets to 5-2 on the
season. They will play their next four games at home.
“We did a good job of coming out with some
intensity in the first half,” said Yellowjacket head coach Kevin
Woodin. “We were able to get a lot of high-low looks from our
posts, and Tanya (Petersen) and Robyn (Milne) were very effective
offensively throughout the game. We got a lot of contributions
from a lot of players. We got very good guard play off the bench
and were able to put pressure on them from a perimeter
standpoint. We did a better job of taking care of the ball than
we did yesterday. It was a nice win for us, and we’re looking
forward to our home stand to finish December.”
The Yellowjackets jumped to an early lead and
never looked back. They held Southern Oregon (1-10) to 25 percent
shooting from the field in the first half and just 29 percent in
the game. MSU Billings outscored the Raiders 43-25 in the opening
20 minutes.
Eight different players scored for the
Yellowjackets, led by 24 points from Milne (Sr., Richey, MT). She was 10-of-14 from the field and
4-of-4 from the free throw line. She also pulled down a game-high
19 rebounds and blocked six shots. The six blocked shots tie her
career high, which she has now reached seven times. Milne also
led all players in the game with five assists.
Michelle Lieber (So., Gillette, WY) and Jessica Bratton (So., Casper, WY) scored 12 points apiece.
Lieber was 5-of-8 from the field, and Bratton was 5-of-7. Peterson (Jr., Billings, MT) just missed a double-double with
16 points and nine boards. She also had two of the Jackets’ nine
blocked shots.

free throw line for half her points. Andi Peterson finished with
11 points on 4-of-8 shooting from the field. Sara Beyer and
Courtney Bothum added 10 points apiece. Beyer also had a
team-high nine rebounds.
The Jackets return to Alterowitz Gym on
December 17 and 18 to host Humboldt State. The two teams did not
meet at the Humboldt tournament over the weekend. The game on the
17th will tip off at 6:00 p.m., and the game on the 18th will begin at 7:00 p.m. MSU Billings will wrap up the calendar
year with home games against Saint Leo on December 20 and 21. |
