Lady Jackets Win, 86-78, in Alumni Exhibition (Dec. 31, 2004)

BILLINGS, MT – The Montana State-Billings women’s basketball team pulled away for an 86-78 exhibition victory over an MSU Billings alumni team on Friday.  The Yellowjackets (9-2) return to regular season action on January 3 when they play a West Region game at Northwest Nazarene.  MSU Billings next plays at home on January 6 in another West Region contest against St. Martin’s.

Ten of the twelve players who saw action for MSU Billings scored.  Michelle Lieber (So., Gillette, WY) led the Yellowjackets with 17 points.  Kayla Frize (Jr., Miles City, MT) and Tanya Petersen (Jr., Billings, MT) each netted 13 points.  Petersen made four 3-pointers, and Frize had two 3-pointers.  Jenny Langford (Jr., Reedpoint, MT) knocked down three 3-pointers and finished with 11 points.  The Yellowjackets made 11 3-pointers as a team.

The alumni were led by Deena (Bartu) Garbett’s game-high 31 points.  The 2000 MSUB grad had three 3-pointers and was 7-of-8 from the free throw line.  Kami Malnaa, a 2002 grad, netted 23 points with four 3-pointers.  Malnaa is currently an assistant coach with the Yellowjackets.
