Yellowjackets Roll to Senior Night Win over Hilo (Nov. 2, 2004)

BILLINGS, MT – A night after battling to a long five-game win, the Montana State-Billings volleyball team downed Hawaii-Hilo in convincing fashion Tuesday night, 3-1.  The Yellowjackets won 30-25, 26-30, 30-20, 30-17 to improve to 14-9 overall.  The Vulcans dropped to 4-17 for the season.

Neither team could manage any consistency in Monday’s 3-2 MSU Billings win.  The Jackets rebounded offensively on Tuesday, hitting .222 as a team and knocking down 17 more kills than the Vulcans.  Senior Olivia Munro (Toronto, Ontario) pounded out 19 kills in the final home match of her career, adding a match-high 24 digs.  The school record holder for career kills hit .228 on 57 attempts for the night.

The only glitch in the Jackets’ night came in the second game when they hit just .074 as a team.  MSU Billings hit over .200 in each of the other three games, including a dominating .409 in the fourth and deciding game when they had no errors on 44 attempts.

Senior Cortney Lennan (Roundup, MT) also played well in her final home match.  She finished with 10 kills on a .276 hitting percentage, adding seven digs and three blocks.  Jessica Bratton (So., Casper, WY) had her second strong match of the week, knocking down 21 kills to go with 17 digs.  She finished the week with 44 kills and 40 digs.

The Jackets’ middle blockers continued to control the net, combining for nine blocks.  Senior Andrea Donahue (Whitefish, MT) had nine kills and four blocks.  Alicia Cazemier (Fr., Vauxhall, Alberta) finished with five kills and five blocks.  Cazemier ranks second in the PacWest for blocks while Donahue is eighth.

Setter Natalie Bills (So., Provo, UT) handed out a match-high 57 assists to go with 13 digs.  She is third in the conference for assists per game at 12.32.

Hawaii-Hilo, which hit just .076 for the match, was led by 14 kills from Christina Cooley.  She also added 12 digs.  Shara Parker finished with 12 kills and 16 digs.

MSU Billings concludes the season next Friday and Saturday at Western New Mexico.  The Yellowjackets have already secured the first winning season in the program’s history.  One more victory would tie the school record for the most total wins in a season.
