BILLINGS, MT – The Montana State-Billings
volleyball team completed the season sweep of cross-town rival
Rocky Mountain College in convincing fashion on Wednesday night.
The Yellowjackets out-hit the Bears .339 to .091 en route to a
quick sweep, 30-23, 30-17, 30-24. MSU Billings improved to 11-8
overall, dropping Rocky to 9-14.
The Jackets swept the Bears at Rocky on
September 21, holding them to just a .010 team hitting
percentage. Wednesday’s match was more of the same as the
Yellowjacket offense operated at an efficient pace.
Setter Natalie
Bills (So., Provo, UT) handed out a match-high 46 assists to
guide the Yellowjackets to their third-best hitting night of the
season. Two of the Jackets’ top three single match hitting
percentages this season have come against the Bears.
Olivia
Munro (Sr., Toronto, Ontario) posted her seventeenth
double-double of the season with match highs for kills (18) and
digs (14). She had only five attack errors on 46 attempts for a
.283 attack percentage.
Ranked eighth in the nation for hitting
percentage, senior Andrea
Donahue (Whitefish, MT) had another solid outing with 10 kills
on 15 attempts with only two errors. Her .533 hitting percentage
for the match was the best of any player with more than five
attempts. She is now hitting .419 for the season. Donahue was
also in on four blocks in the match.
Jessica
Bratton (So., Casper, WY) knocked down 13 kills for MSUB,
posting a .259 hitting percentage on 27 attempts. Alicia
Cazemier (Fr., Vauxhall, Alberta) added seven kills and two
blocks for the Jackets. Kari Jones (Sr., Hermiston, OR) finished with five kills on five attempts
without an error.
The Bears were led by six kills from Megan
Longenecker, although she hit only .080 with four errors in her 25
attempts. Courtney Arthun added five kills on 23 attempts with
four errors (.043). Libero Jen Buening finished with 11 digs.
The Yellowjackets return to PacWest
Conference play next Monday and Tuesday when they host 25th-ranked
Chaminade University. The Silverswords are currently tied atop
the PacWest standings with 14th-ranked Hawaii Pacific.
