Jackets’ Rainey Named PWC Player of the Week (Apr. 12, 2005)

BILLINGS, MT – The Montana State-Billings senior Cami Rainey was named the Pacific West Conference softball player of the week on Monday.  The shortstop from Terreton, ID, led the Yellowjackets to a 5-1 conference mark last week, including a pair of upsets of first place Hawaii-Hilo.  MSU Billings split with the Vulcans on Monday to win three of four games in the season series.

The Yellowjackets’ leadoff hitter batted .571 for the week, scoring 10 runs and driving in four RBI.  She had a .905 slugging percentage with five extra base hits—four doubles and a home run.

For the season, Rainey ranks second in the PacWest with a .417 batting average and sixth with a .629 slugging percentage.  Her 36 runs scored are second in the league, and she leads the PWC for total hits with 55.  She has already set school single season records for runs scored, total hits, doubles, and total bases.

The Yellowjackets host Albertson College on Wednesday in a non-conference doubleheader.  The first game starts at 3:00 p.m. at Cenex Stadium.
