Lady Jacket Byrnes Clinches Win (Mar. 15, 2005)
Pueblo, CO – The Montana State
University-Billings women’s tennis team clinched a tight
win against Colorado State
University-Pueblo on
Wednesday, March 9th in Pueblo. The Jackets
downed the Thunder Wolves 5-4 after freshman Nikki Byrnes (Fr., Brisbane, Australia) battled to a
three-set win.
“Nikki was able to keep her
composure and game moving forward to win her three-set
singles match to give the Jackets a slim margin win,”
said head coach Jerry Peach. “The girls played hard as
a team and are working together as a unit,” Peach added.
Marta
Borges (Fr., Lisbon, Portugal) led the Lady Jackets
earning two team points.
The Yellowjacket men’s team did not
fare as well as the women. The Jackets were downed 1-8
by University of Southern Colorado. Brian Kasid (Jr.,
Chaska, MN) playing in the number 6 spot was the only
Jacket to score a team point against the Thunder
Wolves.
“Match scores were close, but the
players did not finish enough points to claim victory,”
said Peach of the men’s team. “Doubles play proved once
again to be frustrating for the team, as we were swept
by CSU-Pueblo.” “The singles matches were very competitive,
but require a high level of consistency and follow
through by all team members.” “The team is starting to
play together and hopefully this will mean good things
down the road.”
Both the men and women continue
their spring break tour competing next against Colorado
College on Thursday, March 10. |
