SPOKANE, WA – An explosive first half gave
Gonzaga a 5-1 win over Montana State-Billings in men’s soccer
action Saturday. The Bulldogs (2-2-0) scored five goals in the
first half and cruised to their second victory of the year. The
Yellowjackets fell to 3-4-0 overall.
Gonzaga struck early and often in the first
half en route to a 5-0 halftime advantage. The Bulldogs scored
twice in the first five minutes with goals at 4:15 and 4:33. Luke
Miller and George Joston each scored back to back goals in the
half for Gonzaga.
Yellowjacket goalkeeper Jess Feldtman (Jr., GK, Lander, WY) allowed
five goals with one save in the half before missing the second
half with an injury. About midway through the first half,
Feldtman was injured in a collision with the Bulldogs’ John
Palladino and was hobbled for the final 20 minutes of the half.
Gonzaga scored its final three goals after that point. Kyle Bales (Sr., MF, Cody, WY) moved from his midfielder position to finish the game in goal,
making one second half save.
MSU Billings avoided the shutout with just 14
seconds remaining when Jesse Spann (Jr., MF, Rock Springs, WY) scored his second goal of the
year at 89:46. Thomas Pertuit (Sr., MF, Billings, MT) assisted on the goal after Spann
gained control of his throw in and found the net. The
Yellowjackets were out shot 19-4 in the game.
The Yellowjackets play on the road next
Saturday when they travel to Bismarck to face University of Mary.
MSU Billings swept two games against the Marauders last year,
including a double overtime win in Bismarck. |
