Box Score
COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – Consecutive
victories have eluded the Montana State-Billings men’s soccer
team all season, and the streak continued Sunday with a 2-1
loss at University of Colorado-Colorado Springs. The
Yellowjackets, 6-11-0 overall this season, defeated the
University of Mary on Thursday for Senior Day. For the sixth
time in 2004, the Jackets failed to string two wins together.
In their first meeting with the Mountain
Lions in Billings on September 6, the Yellowjackets scored
three early goals and held on for a 3-2 win. They started
fast again on Sunday when Robbie Thimm (Sr., Park City, UT)
scored at 29:39 to give MSUB a 1-0 lead. The goal was Thimm’s
first of the season. The Yellowjackets didn’t threaten often,
however, as UCCS held a 15-5 shot advantage in the game.
Thimm had all three of the Jackets’ shots on goal.
The Mountain Lions tied the game just
before halftime when Mark Brehm scored at 37:11. He became
the first UCCS player to score two goals for the season.
Kenny Salazar netted the game winner at 58:41 for the Lions,
who won for just the third time this year to improve to 3-10.
Kyle Bales (Sr., Cody, WY) made five
saves on the day with all five coming in the first half. He
has 65 saves and a 2.21 goals against average since taking
over the goalkeeping duties at midseason.
The Yellowjackets wrap up the season on
Monday at Metropolitan State University in Denver. Metro is
9-3-0 overall and 6-1 at home this season. The Roadrunners
have outscored their opponents by a combined 40-10. Phillip
Owen has 14 of those goals to go with two assists for 30
points. |
