Yellowjacket Seniors Finish on High Note (Oct. 14, 2004)
Box Score
BILLINGS, MT – Senior Brian Palmer scored both goals for the Montana
State-Billings men’s soccer team in a 2-0 Senior Day win over
University of Mary on Thursday. The Yellowjackets improved to
6-10-0 with two games remaining. The Marauders dropped to
9-7-0.
Palmer (Laramie, WY) scored what would
turn out to be the game winner just 6:24 into the contest
after fellow senior Thomas Pertuit split two defenders with a pass to Palmer,
who had worked into open space in the center of the field.
Palmer set and fired, scoring his fifth goal of the season.
For Pertuit (Billings, MT), it was his team-leading third
assists of the year.
Six different Marauders put shots on goal
in the game, but Yellowjacket senior Kyle
Bales (Cody, WY) stopped all six shots for his third
victory of the season. Bales has 60 saves in nine
appearances. Thursday was his second shutout of the year.
Palmer put the game on ice in the 68th minute when he dribbled past Marauders defenders into the box
and fired from 15 yards out for his sixth goal of the year.
Palmer is second on the team for goals scored as well as
points with 14.
The Yellowjackets will wrap up the season
next week with two games in Colorado. They will play at
Colorado-Colorado Springs on Sunday, October 17, and at Regis
in Denver on Monday the 18th.
