Yellowjacket Soccer Falls at Western Washington
Box Score
BELLINGHAM, WA – The Montana
State-Billings men’s soccer team dropped its second-straight
game, falling 3-1 at Western Washington Monday evening. The
loss drops the Jackets to 4-6-0 overall. Western, ranked
fourth in the Far West Region, improves to 8-2. MSU Billings
wraps up its three-game swing to Washington on Tuesday with a
meeting against nationally eighteenth-ranked Seattle Pacific.
The Vikings jumped to an early lead when
Ryan Hopp scored at just 9:17, finishing a cross from the left
side to score from five yards out. Hopp would score twice in
the game for his tenth and eleventh goals of the season.
The Yellowjackets tied the game in the 79th minute when Thomas Pertuit (Sr., MF, Billings, MT) scored his
team-leading eighth goal of the year. Pertuit found the net
from 25 yards out on a free kick.
Two late Vikings goals proved to be the
difference in the game. Hopp scored the game-winner at 81:29,
beating Jacket goalkeeper Kyle
Bales (Sr., MF/GK, Cody, WY) from 12 yards out. Bales was
playing his fourth game in goal after starting keeper Jess Feldtman (Jr., Lander, WY) was lost to injury at
Gonzaga two weeks ago. Bales made seven saves in Monday’s
loss.
The Vikings’ Gus Zadra provided the
insurance goal at 86:25, scoring his first goal of the season
on a chip shot. Western out shot the Jackets 22-11 in the
game. MSU Billings was unable to convert on 23 Vikings fouls
and four yellow cards.
The Yellowjackets return home after
Tuesday’s game at Seattle Pacific for the second annual Futbol
Frenzy. MSU Billings hosts Colorado School of Mines on
Saturday and Westminster College on Sunday. Both games are
scheduled to kick off at 2:30 p.m. and are part of men/women
double-headers. This weekend’s games are the first of
five-straight home games for the Yellowjackets. |
