Jacket Baseball Inks Helena Player (June 15,
2005)
BILLINGS, MT – Montana State-Billings
baseball coach Chris Brown announced Wednesday that James Hopkins
of Helena has signed a letter of intent to play for the
Yellowjackets next year. Hopkins graduated from Helena Capital High
School earlier this month.
The 5-foot-11, 160-pound outfielder/pitcher
is in his second season with the Helena Senators. He also played
one season for Helena’s “A” team, the Reps. Last year he batted
.284 with 20 RBI and 13 stolen bases. So far during his senior
campaign, Hopkins is hitting .311 with a .489 slugging percentage
and 15 RBI.
“James is a two way player that has a lot of
potential physically,” said Brown. “He is a good student that has
excelled in the classroom and on the field. He has a good work
ethic and a passion for the game, which bodes well for his
development as a player. We are excited to have James join the
Yellowjacket Baseball program.”
Hopkins also lettered two years in football
and two years in track at Helena Capital. He was a member of
state championship teams in both sports. Planning to major in
mathematics, Hopkins was a four-year honor roll student.
“I spent a lot of time looking at out of
state colleges searching for a four year program,” said Hopkins.
“When MSU Billings announced they would start a baseball program,
I checked into it right away. I am excited about the chance to
play baseball in my home state and be in a four year program. I
am looking forward to being involved with a new, growing baseball
program.” |
