Yellowjacket Runners Compete at Regional Meet in
Fresno (November 9, 2002)
FRESNO, CA – Sophomores Ellen Swogger and Chelsea Lynnes were the highest placers for MSU Billings at the
NCAA II West Region Cross-Country Meet. The two
Miles City natives finished 47th and 59th respectively as the Lady Yellowjackets finished 16th in the team standings.
Swogger navigated the 8K course
in 23:52, outracing three other runners who finished
within a second of her. Swogger averaged 6:27 per
mile over the course of the race. Lynnes was in a
pack of three who finished in 24:09. She averaged
6:32 per mile.
Other finishers for the Lady
Jackets were Anjel Hoff (92nd, 25:30), Kelly Long (106th, 26:29), Tracie Overberg (111th, 26:54), Colleen Anderson (116th, 27:45), and Mandy Brown (124th, 28:53).
The Yellowjacket men’s team
competed with three runners, led by Brian Fosjord’s
90th place finish. Fosjord completed the
10K course in 37:48 for a per mile average of 6:06. Ryan Archibald finished 107th in 40:30, and Ben McNelley finished 113th in 41:30.
The top three teams each
qualify for the NCAA Championships, with the top two
individual finishers on non-qualifying teams
qualifying for the NCAA meet. The NCAA
Championships will be held at Brookside Golf Course
in Ashland, Ohio, on November 23rd, 2002.
