MSU Billings Women Place Seventh at Rocky Mountain
Shootout (October 7, 2002)
BOULDER, CO – Ellen Swogger,
a sophomore from Miles City, led the MSU Billings
women’s cross country team to a seventh place finish
against a number of nationally-ranked teams and
All-Americans this weekend in the Rocky Mountain
Shootout. The meet was held at the University of
Colorado’s mile-high Buffalo Range.
Swogger finished the 5.8
kilometer (3.6 mile) course in a personal best of
23:56. Also competing for the Lady Yellowjackets
were Chelsea Lynnes (24:58), Anjel Hoff (25:16), Kelly Long (25:34), Colleen Anderson (27:18), Tracie Overberg (27:48), Mandy Brown (28:11), Kendra Bebee (29:12) and Abbie Strutz (31:23).
The meet featured NCAA Division
I nationally-ranked Colorado, and Division II No. 1
ranked Western State and No. 10 UC-Colorado
Springs.
“Ellen really stepped it up
this weekend into our number one spot with a great
PR on a tough course at altitude,” said
Yellowjackets cross-country coach Dave Coppock.
She held her own against the Colorado, Western State
and Colorado Springs runners. Chelsea Lynnes, who
had been our top runner for the previous two meets,
had a rough race and was off her usual pace. It was
good to see that we have some depth when it counts.”
For the MSU Billings men’s
team, Brian Fosjord finished 72nd with a time of 29:24
over the 8 kilometer (5 miles) course. He was
followed by teammates Josh Jones (30:21) and Ryan Archibald (32:30).
The Yellowjackets will return
to Colorado next weekend for the Northern Colorado
Invitational. The meet is expected to draw a dozen
division II schools primarily from the Rocky
Mountain Athletic Conference.
