Lady
Yellowjackets Sign Pair of Wyoming Soccer Players (March 17, 2003)
BILLINGS, MT – MSU Billings
women’s soccer coach Don Trentham announced that two
Wyoming players have committed to play for the
Yellowjackets next season. Raquel Macia from
Cheyenne and Jenny Moellendorf from Green River have
signed national letters of intent for the 2003
season.
Macias is a 5-foot-5 midfielder
from Cheyenne East High School. As a junior in 2002
she was the Wyoming Gatorade Player of the Year and
a first team all-state selection. She earned first
team all-state honors as a sophomore and was named
to the all-state second team as a freshman. In each
of her first three years at Cheyenne East HS she was
named the school’s female athlete of the year.
“Raquel is one of the top
athletes and is regarded as one of the top soccer
players in Wyoming,” said Trentham. “I believe her
ball handling skill and physical presence in the
center of the midfield will help both our attack and
defense next season.”
Macias is currently trying to
lead her team to its third consecutive state
championship. CEHS won the regional and state
championships in both her sophomore and junior
seasons. She has also been on three state
championship teams at the club level.
“I feel that personally,
academically, and athletically MSU Billings provides
the opportunities to achieve my goals,” said
Macias. “Coach Trentham’s enthusiasm for the future
of the program has given me much to look forward
to.”
Moellendorf is a four-year
letter winner from Green River High School, where
she already holds the school scoring record entering
her senior season. As a midfielder Moellendorf has
been a first team all-conference and second team
all-state selection in each of her first three
seasons. Last year as a junior she was the
conference’s leading scorer. GRHS won the
conference championship in Moellendorf’s sophomore
season.
“I am very excited about
Jenny’s future at MSU Billings,” said Trentham.
“Her speed and tenacity to get the ball from
opposing defenses will help create a lot of scoring
chances for us. I expect Jenny to develop into a
good college forward in her four years at MSUB.”
"I chose
Montana State-Billings because I was very impressed
with the school and I really enjoyed the Billings
area," said Moellendorf. "I also felt that I
could grow more as a player at MSUB than anywhere
else." |
