Lady
Yellowjackets Ink Pair of Goalkeepers (March 27, 2003)
BILLINGS, MT – MSU Billings
women’s soccer coach Don Trentham announced that two
goalkeepers have signed national letters of intents
to compete for the Yellowjackets next season. Megan
Plank from Phoenix, Arizona and Alyssa Wolfer from
Longmont, Colorado have both committed to the
Yellowjacket program for next season.
Plank was a three-year letter
winner at Thunderbird High School in Phoenix, where
she led her team to regional championships in 2002
and 2003. She earned second team all-region honors
as a goalkeeper as a sophomore in 2001 when she
recorded 70 saves and eight shutouts. As a junior
and senior Plank played as a midfielder, earning
second team all-region honors both seasons.
“After meeting with the coaches
and several members of the team, I felt welcome and
part of the team,” said Plank, who plans to major in
Chemistry. “I believe with the size of the school
and with professors who are leaders in their fields,
I will receive the best education and productive
learning environment.”
Wolfer is in her senior season
at Longmont High School, where she will graduate as
a four-year letter winner. She posted a 3.80 GPA in
high school and was the recipient of her school’s
Principal’s Award and Academic Excellence Award.
“Montana State
University-Billings offers diverse opportunities to
pursue my academic and athletic goals,” said Wolfer.
“That combination will be a benefit to my future
studies in sports fitness and health.”
Last season the Yellowjackets
had a 3.89 goals-against average and a .650 save
percentage. MSUB was 2-14 overall in Trentham’s
first season at the helm. The team has announced
five new signings so far this spring and anticipates
having more soon.
“Megan and Alyssa are great
additions to our program,” said Trentham. “Both
will be competing for the starting goalkeeper
position next fall. Megan’s experience and quality
coaching she received in Phoenix will help us in
goal next season. Alyssa’s athletic ability,
attitude and work ethic will be a great asset for
us. We need someone to step up and take charge of
the goalkeeping in order to solidify our defense,
and either one of these girls could do that.” |
