Yellowjackets Sign Two More Soccer Recruits (June 30, 2003)
BILLINGS, MT – MSU Billings
head women’s soccer coach Don Trentham announced
Monday that the Yellowjackets have received
commitments from two more recruits for the 2003
season. Megan Beckstead of Salt Lake City, Utah,
and Jennifer Furman of Casper, Wyoming will join the
Jackets this fall. According to Trentham, Beckstead
and Furman will be the final additions to the 2003
roster, with will include eight returning letter
winners and 12 new recruits. The Yellowjackets
played with 13 players last season.
Beckstead is a 2000 graduate of
Cottonwood High School in Salt Lake City where she
earned three varsity soccer letters. She played the
last two seasons at Santa Rosa Junior College where
she competed in soccer and track and field. She
earned all-conference and all-Northern California
honors in track at SRJC.
“I like MSUB’s schedule because
I will be playing against some girls I played with
at Santa Rosa Junior College,” said the 5-foot-6
midfielder. “I have a sense that I will fit in very
well and I will bring some leadership to this team.”
Furman was an all-conference
and all-state defender at Natrona County High School
where she earned four varsity letters. She also
earned all-conference and all-state honors in Nordic
skiing. The 5-3 Furman helped NCHS capture the 2000
and 2003 soccer state titles as well as the 2002
Nordic skiing state championship.
“The soccer program at MSUB
looks like it is going in the right direction,” said
Furman. “When I visited the school it was wonderful
and a place I could see my self excelling. I know a
couple girls who have gone through MSU Billings and
they loved everything about it.”
“We are very fortunate to add
Megan and Jennifer to our squad,” said Trentham.
“Megan’s two years of experience at Santa Rosa JC
will help add leadership to our program.
Furthermore, her athleticism and ability on the
field will help add depth to our team in the
midfield. Jenni brings a great attitude and a
desire to be the best to our program. I will look
for her to challenge for a starting spot as an
outside back or an outside midfielder.” |
