Lady Jackets Notch First Soccer Win in Double OT
BILLINGS – The MSU Billings
women’s soccer team scored its first win of the 2002
season Saturday by defeating Wayne State 2-1 in
double overtime. Junior Kelly Bryn’s goal with 10
seconds remaining in the second overtime period
lifted the Yellowjackets to the victory.
Wayne State took a 1-0 lead in
the 56th minute on Mary McDaniel’s
unassisted goal. The Yellowjackets tied the score
at 1-1 on freshman Lacey Badger’s first goal of the
season in the 87th minute. Badger was
assisted by senior Kristen Johnson, who notched her
second assists of the season.
Even though they out-shot Wayne
State 24-9 for the game, MSUB couldn’t manage the
winning goal until the 110th minute. By
NCAA rules, soccer games use 10-minute overtime
periods. With time expiring in the second overtime,
Heidi Robertson found Bryn in front of the net for
one final shot. Her game-ending goal improved MSU Billings
to 1-2 on the season.
The Yellowjackets will face the
University of Lethbridge Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at
Rocky Mountain College. |
