Lady Jackets Notch First Soccer Win in Double OT

BILLINGS – The MSU Billings women’s soccer team scored its first win of the 2002 season Saturday by defeating Wayne State 2-1 in double overtime.  Junior Kelly Bryn’s goal with 10 seconds remaining in the second overtime period lifted the Yellowjackets to the victory.

Wayne State took a 1-0 lead in the 56^th minute on Mary McDaniel’s unassisted goal.  The Yellowjackets tied the score at 1-1 on freshman Lacey Badger’s first goal of the season in the 87^th minute.  Badger was assisted by senior Kristen Johnson, who notched her second assists of the season. 

Even though they out-shot Wayne State 24-9 for the game, MSUB couldn’t manage the winning goal until the 110^th minute.  By NCAA rules, soccer games use 10-minute overtime periods.  With time expiring in the second overtime, Heidi Robertson found Bryn in front of the net for one final shot.  Her game-ending goal improved MSU Billings to 1-2 on the season.

The Yellowjackets will face the University of Lethbridge Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Rocky Mountain College.
