Women’s Soccer Plays at Rocky to Decide 2002 Rimrock
Cup (October 8, 2002)
BILLINGS, MT – The Lady
Yellowjackets will face cross-town rival Rocky
Mountain College Thursday afternoon in game two of
the 2002 Rimrock Cup. The trophy will go to the
winner of the season series between the two teams.
Rocky won the first game of the
season, 3-1 at Yellowjacket Field. All three of
Rocky’s goals in that game came by the 33rd minute, with MSUB’s Mandy Reed scoring just before halftime.
The Yellowjackets, 2-9 on the
season, will be looking to win back-to-back games
for the first time this year after knocking off
Jamestown College 2-0 last Saturday. After being
out-shot 18-11 by Rocky in the first meeting, MSU Billings
will be focused on generating more offense on
Thursday.
Kelly Bryn (junior midfielder, Missoula, MT) and Heidi Robertson (junior midfielder, Great Falls, MT) have each
scored two goals this season for the Jackets.
Robertson leads the team in scoring with six
points. Mandy Reed’s (junior defender, Denver, CO)
three assists are tops on the team. Cori Russell (freshman, Casper, WY) has been handling the
goalkeeping duties for the Yellowjackets as of
late. She has a 5.25 goals against average and a
.656 save percentage.
Kickoff for Thursday’s game is
scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at Rocky Mountain College.
If Rocky wins or if the game is a tie, the Bears
will take home this year’s Rimrock Cup. If MSUB
wins, then there will be a penalty kick shootout to
determine the winner of the Cup. |
