MSU Billings
Women’s Basketball Team Receives WBCA Recognition (September 17, 2002)
BILLINGS – The Women’s
Basketball Coaches Association announced its
2001-2002 Top 25 Academic Top 25 Team Honor Rolls on
Tuesday, with Montana State University-Billings
placing second among Division II schools. The Lady
Yellowjackets compiled a combined 3.552 team GPA for
the 2001-2002 academic year.
For the award, grade point
averages were calculated by dividing the total
number of quality points earned by each
student-athlete on an institution’s squad list in
the given academic terms by the total number of
hours earned by the team. The GPAs were rounded to
the nearest thousandth of a point.
The top five Division II
universities were Abilene Christian University
(3.666), Montana State University-Billings (3.552),
Regis University (3.493), Minnesota State
University-Mankato (3.491), and Mars Hill College
(3.475).
“I’m just proud of how hard our
girls worked all year,” said Yellowjacket head coach
Karyn Ridgeway. “We have such a good group on and
off the court. Combined with the success they had
on the court last season, this just shows how
well-rounded they are as student-athletes.”
MSU Billings finished last
season with a 23-5 overall record and were seeded
No. 3 in the NCAA West Region Tournament. The Lady
Jackets open the season on November 22 and 23,
hosting Cal State-San Diego both nights. |
