Lady Yellowjackets Host No. 13 Western Washington

BILLINGS, MT – The MSU Billings
women’s basketball team will host 13th-ranked
Western Washington Wednesday night. Tip-off is set
for 7:00 p.m. at Alterowitz Gymnasium.
The Yellowjackets will be
trying to extend their school record 25-game home
winning streak as well as pick up a big West Region
victory when they host the Vikings. MSUB will also
be looking to prevent a little déjà vu. The last
time the Lady Jackets lost at Alterowitz was January
4, 2001, 84-64 to Western Washington.
MSU Billings enters the pivotal
regional match-up with a 6-2 overall record and a
5-1 record within the region. The Yellowjackets are
paced by senior Natalie Visger who averages 15.9 points and eight rebounds per
game. Visger also leads the Jackets with 24
assists. Fellow senior Jessica Bachmann is adding 13.1 points and four rebounds per game,
while Jessie Henigman and Kayla Frize both average over seven points per game. Henigman
also has 31 blocked shots in eight games.
The Yellowjackets’ only
Division II loss of the year came at Sonoma State
last week. Western Washington enters the game with
a 4-1 record with the Vikings only loss coming to
No. 7 North Dakota State. WWU has five players
averaging double figures in scoring, led by Stacey
Miller’s 15.8 ppg and Susan Rodgers’s 15.4 ppg.
The Vikings have dominated
their opponents in their four wins this season. WWU
is averaging 80.6 points per game while holding its
opponents to 51.2 ppg. The Yellowjackets, on the
other hand, have won with defense. They are
averaging 60.6 points per game while allowing 59.1. |
