Defeats MSU Billings in Four Games (September 16, 2002)
HONOLULU, HI - No. 24-ranked Hawaii Pacific downed MSU Billings in four games
Monday to earn the Sea Warriors' second conference win in as many games.
HPU improved to 7-3 overall and 2-0 in PacWest play after winning 30-19, 25-30,
30-24, 30-17.
PacWest Co-Player of the Week Susy Garbelotti had
another impressive performance, notching 25 kills, nine digs, and a .413 hitting
percentage. The 25 kills was the sixth highest output so far this season.
Sandra Brunke was the only other Sea Warrior in double-figures for kills with
10. Vera Oliveira continued her offensive leadership for HPU, handing out
43 assists. Defensively, three Sea Warriors notched double-digit kills.
Mahealani Rawlins had a match-high 15, Ashley Elliazar posted 14, and Teisa Fotu
added 12.
The Yellowjackets, who used a seven-player
rotation, were led by Olivia Munro's 19 kills and 12 digs. Munro is
currently fifth in the PacWest for kills at 3.79 per game. Krissy Janney
recorded 31 assists. Defensively, MSUB was led by Kari Gerretsen's 13 digs
along with Munro's 12 and Mandi Paulson's 10.
HPU remains in a tie for first place in the
conference standings with their perfect 2-0 mark. MSU Billings falls to
4-8 overall, 0-3 in PacWest play. The Sea Warriors next play September 25
when they host Hawaii-Hilo. MSU Billings will close out their Hawaii trip
Tuesday at Hawaii-Hilo. |
