Yellowjackets Sweep Hawaii-Hilo in PacWest Volleyball Match (November 8, 2002)
BILLINGS, MT – The MSU Billings Yellowjackets
completed the season conference sweep over the University of Hawaii-Hilo
Friday night, sweeping the Vulcans 30-25, 30-28, 30-21. The Yellowjackets
improved to 9-15, 3-6 in the PacWest, while UH-Hilo fell to 7-16, 3-6 in
the PacWest.
It was the second meeting between the teams this
season. MSU Billings came back from a 2-0 deficit to win 3-2 at Hilo on
September 17. Friday’s match took just three games as the Jackets out-hit
the Vulcans .246 to .168.
Middle blocker Katrina Dahlgren hit a blistering
.604 en route to 15 kills. She also added three block assists. Outside
hitter Kari Gerretsen also notched 15
kills to go along with eight digs. Outside hitter Olivia Munro finished the night
with a double-double, knocking down 13 kills and tallying 15 digs.
UH-Hilo was paced by Tiffanie Ollison’s 14 kills and
.250 hitting percentage. Cheriesse Shiroma added 13 kills. Shiroma, who
leads the PacWest in blocks, managed only one in the match. Sara Pilgreen
added 13 digs and six kills.
The same two teams will meet in a non-conference
match on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. The game will start at the earlier time in
order to accommodate a women’s basketball alumni game immediately after
the match. |
