Yellowjackets Get Road Win
at Western New Mexico (November 2, 2002)
SILVER CITY, NM – The Lady Yellowjacket volleyball team picked up only
its second road win of the year Friday night, downing PacWest foe
Western New Mexico in five games (30-24, 30-23, 21-30, 21-30, 15-10).
MSUB improved to 8-15 while WNMU dropped to 16-12 in the non-conference
match.
The Yellowjackets jumped to an early 2-0 lead in
the match, cruising to wins of 30-24 and 30-23. Western New Mexico,
which has come back from 2-0 deficits before, then won the next to games
easily to force the deciding fifth game. The Yellowjacket offense
rolled in game five, notching 10 kills in 26 attempts for a .308 hitting
percentage as MSUB closed out the match 15-10.
Olivia Munro, Kari Gerretsen, and Krissy Janney each posted double-digit kills as the Yellowjackets stopped a two-match
losing skid. Munro finished with 16 kills and a match-high 39 digs;
Gerretsen posted 14 kills and 19 digs; and Janney added 11 kills with a
.333 hitting percentage to go along with 41 assists and 19 digs.
Middle blocker Katrina Dahlgren added five block assists and two solo
blocks.
The Mustangs, who won the conference match between
the two teams on Friday, were paced by Kimberly Tano's 21 kills and 30
digs. Lisa Sevieri added 10 kills and 27 digs.
The Yellowjackets will host Hawaii-Hilo on November 8
and 9. |
