Yellowjackets Win First PacWest Road Game (February 23, 2003)
KANEOHE, HI – The MSU Billings
softball team recorded its first PacWest win in
Hawaii on Sunday, defeating Hawaii Pacific 4-2 in
the first game of a double-header. The
Yellowjackets lost game two 3-1.
Before the double-header, that
was scheduled to be played on Saturday but postponed
because of rain, the Yellowjackets and Sea Warriors
concluded the game that was suspended by rain on
Friday. The Yellowjackets held a 5-2 lead entering
the fifth inning, but lost 6-5 in ten innings.
MSUB gave up two runs in the
sixth and one in the seventh to force extra
innings. Joey Ehnes pitched 9 2/3 innings in picking up
the loss. She allowed six walks and four earned
runs while striking out seven. Cami Rainey was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Michelle Falsken went 2-for-5 with an RBI and a
run scored. Rainey, Ehnes and Meghan O’Donnell each
doubled in the game. O’Donnell is leading the
Yellowjackets in hitting through the first six
games, batting .333.
Megan McCrae spread seven hits over seven
innings in the third game of the weekend to earn her
first win of the season. She walked seven and
struck out six as MSUB won for the first time on the
road in the PacWest. They won three conference
games at home last season, their first in the
PacWest.
The Ehnes sisters, Joey and Terilee, provided the offensive punch for the
Yellowjackets. Terilee went 2-for-3 with a double
and three RBI. Joey was 1-for-3 with a run scored.
Falsken and Sara Hanley also plated runs for the Jackets.
In the final game of the
series, Hawaii Pacific tagged McCrae for four hits
and two runs in the first two innings en route to a
3-1 win. Jordan Waverek replaced McCrae, allowing two
hits and an earned run in four innings of work.
The Yellowjackets tied the game
at 1-1 in the top of the second when Christy Wankel drove in Terilee Ehnes. They couldn’t
piece together another run in the game, however, and
gave up a run in the bottom of the second and the
bottom of the third.
MSU Billings is now 1-5 overall
and 1-3 in the PacWest. Hawaii Pacific is 8-2,
3-1. The Yellowjackets are schedule to play at
BYU-Hawaii on Monday and Tuesday with games starting
at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. HST each day. The Jackets won
three of four games against the Seasiders last
season. |
