MSU Billings
Soccer Coach Inducted into Hall of Fame (April
4, 2003)
BILLINGS, MT – MSU Billings head men’s soccer
coach Doug Seigle was inducted into the Fayette County High School
Sports Hall of Fame last weekend. Seigle was a 1991 graduate of
FCHS, located in Fayetteville, Georgia. To be eligible for the
FCHS Hall of Fame, student-athletes must be out of high school at
least ten years.
Seigle was a three-year starter at goalkeeper
for the Tigers from 1989 to 1991. He earned NSCAA High School
All-America honors and was named to the NSCAA High School All-South
first team as a senior after leading FCHS to a runner-up finish in
the Georgia state tournament.
“I’m honored to receive this award in my
first year of eligibility,” said Seigle. “It brought back
memories of some of the happiest times of my life. My experiences
at Fayette County helped me get to where I am today. That’s why
FCHS will always have a special place in my heart no matter where
I am in my career.”
Seigle attended Viterbo University in
Wisconsin where he was a four-year starter at goalkeeper. He
posted a career record of 49-13-7 with 28 shutouts en route to
becoming a three-time NAIA All-America selection. He was a
unanimous selection to the Umbro Senior Soccer Bowl in 1995 and
was inducted into the Viterbo Wall of Fame in 2002. Seigle still
holds Viterbo school records for career wins, career shutouts,
single season wins, and single season shutouts.
After graduating from Viterbo in 1995, Seigle
played professionally for five years. He spent two seasons in the
Eastern Indoor Soccer league, where he earned all-league honors.
He also played five years in the United States Independent Soccer
League.
After spending four years as an assistant
coach at Luther College, Seigle was hired as the head men’s soccer
coach at Montana State-Billings in 2002. He guided the
Yellowjackets to a 6-11 record in his first season. Sixteen of
those games were played on the road.
Seigle was one of six new inductees into the
FCHS Sports Hall of Fame, which includes 53 members. He is the first soccer player to be inducted at the school, which has
sponsored men’s soccer since 1980. Also included in Seigle’s
induction class was Jody Allen, the current defensive ends coach
at Florida State University. |
