Yellowjackets Roll Past Chadron, Improve to 4-0 (December 7, 2002)
BILLINGS, MT – Jerett Skrifvars scored a career-high 29 points as the MSU Billings
Yellowjackets ran past the Chadron State Eagles
103-69 Saturday night at Alterowitz Gymnasium. The
win pushed the Yellowjackets’ nation-best home win
streak to 36 games.
Neither team was able to find
any offensive flow in the first half as the game
became a physical battle. The Yellowjackets were
tabbed with two technical fouls in the opening half
and the Eagles picked up another as each team played
aggressively in its half court defense.
MSU Billings managed to find
the shooting touch late in the half to forge a 49-32
lead at the break. Chadron shot just 43-percent
from the field and 50-percent from the free throw
line, while the Yellowjackets connected on
48-percent of the field goal attempts and 90-percent
of their free throws in the first half. Chadron
never did find the range from the floor or the
line. The Eagles shot 42.6-percent from the floor
for the game and just 52-percent from the charity
stripe.
Facing an aggressive Eagles
defense, the Yellowjackets spread the floor for
Skrifvars, a senior guard who is averaging 24 points
per game through the first four games of this
season. Skrifvars slashed through the Chadron
defense, driving the lane and hitting short jumpers
en route to an 8-for-14 performance from the field.
He also made it to the free throw line 13 times,
sinking all 13 attempts to raise his season average
to 89-percent.
Seniors Kyle Stirmlinger and Dan Thompson also posted big games, with Stirmlinger netting
netting 19 points and Thompson 18. Bill Day added seven points and 10 rebounds, and Dave Carse scored double-digits with 13 points to go along with
seven assists.
The Eagles were paced by David
Deon and Matt Brown who each dropped in 12 points.
David made 5-of-6 attempts from the field and added
nine rebounds. Elijah Collins posted 10 points and
six boards. |
