Yellowjackets Cruise to Third Straight Win, 101-79
over Minot State (November 30,
2002)
BILLINGS, MT – Jerett Skrifvars scored 20 points to lead the MSU Billings men’s
basketball team to a 101-79 victory over Minot State
on Saturday night at Alterowitz Gymnasium.
Skrifvars has led the Jackets in scoring in each of
their three wins this year, scoring at least 20 each
game. He also added seven assists and six rebounds.
Minot State (4-4) shot
50-percent from the field in the game and stuck
close to the Yellowjackets for about 25 minutes,
trailing by just five at the break. But MSUB (3-0)
proved to be too fast and too strong in the long
run, pulling away in the final 15 minutes and
out-scoring the Beavers 58-41 in the second half.
The Yellowjackets continued to
improve their 3-point shooting for the second
straight game, hitting a season-high 14 and shooting
37.8-percent. Willy Davison made 5-of-10 from behind the arc finishing with 17
points, and freshman Cameron Munoz hit 4-of-9 for 12 points.
MSU Billings opened the second
half with an aggressive man-to-man defense, forcing
the Beavers into 23 turnovers in the game. Those
turnovers led to points as the Yellowjackets were
able to score frequently on the break, combining
3-pointers with slam dunks.
Justin Hassell came off the bench to score 15 for the Jackets on
5-of-11 shooting from the field. Dan Thompson added 14 points in his best outing of the season.
The Beavers were paced by 21
points from Kyle Hunt, 17 from Kent Bloms and 15
from Chad Jacobson. The three combined for all 10
of Minot’s 3-pointers in the game.
MSU Billings will next host
Chadron State on December 7 at 7:00 p.m. |
