Yellowjackets Rank Second for Scoring,
Three-Pointers in Final NCAA Stats (April 30, 2003)
BILLINGS, MT – The NCAA
published its final basketball statistics for the
2002-2003 season and the MSU Billings basketball
team finished second in the nation for both scoring
and three-point field goals made. The Yellowjackets
averaged 89.3 points and 10.4 three-pointers per
game.
Pfeiffer led the nation with a
94.4 points-per-game average, while Bemidji State
edged the Jackets with 11.7 three-pointers per
game. MSU Billings led the nation in scoring the
previous three seasons and five of the last six.
The Yellowjackets were also second in three-pointers
made last year after leading the nation in 1996,
1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, and 2001. In coach Craig
Carse’s eight seasons at MSUB, the Yellowjackets
have built a 114-7 record at home while averaging
104 points per game in Alterowitz Gymnasium.
The Yellowjackets were also
ranked in two other team categories. They finished
23rd for scoring margin by outscoring
their opponents by an average of 10.4 points per
game. The Jackets were 45th for overall
field goal percentage at 47.3.
Freshman guard Cameron Munoz,
the Pacific West Conference Freshman of the Year,
was No. 5 in the nation for three-point field goals
made per game at 3.7. Columbus State’s Jed Bedford
was just ahead of Munoz at 4.2 per game. Senior Dan
Thompson ranked 34th with 2.9 threes per
game. Munoz was also ranked 16th for
three-point percentage at 43.6.
Senior point guard Willy
Davison was ranked 14th for assists per
game at 6.1. Senior center Kyle Stirmlinger was
ranked in two categories, finishing 34th for field goal percentage (57.0) and 44th for blocked shots per game (1.7). |
