Yellowjacket Cheer Team Performs Well at California Competition (March 26, 2003)

IRVINE, CA – The MSU Billings Cheer Team took home a first place trophy in its first-ever competition.  The Yellowjacket all-female stunt team captured top honors in its event at the Cheerleaders of America competition on the campus of UC-Irvine on March 16.

The MSUB all-female stunt team was comprised of Dawn Fenton, Marissa Anderson, Kimberly Bone, Tracie Overberg and Jolene Swanke.  The team took first place in the six-school competition.  Also competing at the event were Long Beach City College, Fullerton College, Ventura College, El Camino Junior College, and the University of Redlands.

The Yellowjackets also captured a third place trophy with the co-ed partner stunt team of Nic Talmark and Brandi Hallgren.  Matt Slater placed fourth in the dance soloist category.

The Yellowjackets led the overall team competition after the first round, but slipped to fourth after the tumbling exercises.  MSUB led Long Beach 38-31 after the first round of the team competition.  Competing for the Yellowjackets were Talmark, Dolan Hornbeck, Scott Taylor, Slater, Bryan Cartwright, Eric Dowell, Hallgren, Jacque Lind, Anderson, Jamie Christopherson, Fenton, Bone, Lindsey Hart, Swanke and Overberg.
