BILLINGS, Mont. – A minute-15 seconds into the second half, Montana State Billings senior men’s soccer standout, Sam Charles, received a through ball from Tyler Moriarty and scored the first of his two goals of the half en route to a 3-0 exhibition victory over visiting Rocky Mountain College Saturday afternoon at Yellowjacket field.
“This was a really good exhibition game,” MSUB head coach Dan McNally said. “Rocky worked really hard and made it difficult in the first half. However, in the second half, we played at a high level dominating the game and finishing our chances. Overall it was very good for our preparation.”
In front of one of the largest crowds in MSUB men’s soccer history, the Yellowjackets had 12 shots on goal to just one for the Bears. MSUB also had nine corner kick opportunities in the game. In the first half, MSUB dominated possession, but was unable to get anything through.
That’s when Charles made a break down the right side and received a nice pass from Moriarty for the score and a 1-0 lead at the 46:15 mark. Billings native, Chris Andre, got into the act with a goal on a nice pass from Zach Yeager at the 67:39 mark for a 2-0 lead.
Charles and Kyle Moriarty hooked up at 73:14 as the Yellowjackets moved the ball around nicely and set up a goal from just outside the right side of the box for a 3-0 lead.
The Yellowjackets open the regular season Fri., Aug. 28, at 5 p.m., versus Colorado Christian at Yellowjacket Field. It will be the first time that MSUB has opened the regular season at home in school history.
This season ALL MSUB home men’s and women’s soccer games will be FREE on the internet with live video and audio as the voice of the Yellowjackets, Ken Adelblue, will have the call.
