Jacket Volleyball Debuts at No. 9
BILLINGS, Mont. – The Montana State
Billings volleyball team was ranked ninth by the NCAA Volleyball
Committee in the year’s first regional rankings released
Wednesday. The Yellowjackets, 12-5 overall, are one of five
Great Northwest Athletic Conference teams ranked in the top 10.
Unbeaten Cal State San Bernardino is the
top-ranked team in the Pacific Region. A traditional regional
power, the Coyotes are 17-0, including a 14-0 record against
teams from the Pacific Region. The GNAC and the California
Collegiate Athletic Association each have five teams ranked in
the regional top 10. The Pacific West Conference, usually a
strong volleyball conference, does not have a single team ranked
in the regional top 10 this week.
Western Washington is the highest-ranked
GNAC team at No. 2. Western Oregon is No. 6, Northwest Nazarene
is No. 8, MSUB is No. 9, and Seattle Pacific is No. 10. Western
Washington and Western Oregon are currently tied for first in
the GNAC with 8-1 league marks.
The conference champions from the GNAC and
the CCAA will receive automatic berths to the NCAA Tournament in
November. The NCAA regional poll will determine the other six
participants that advance to the Pacific Regional.
MSU Billings has two important road matches
this week. The Yellowjackets play at Western Oregon on Thursday
and at Saint Martin’s on Saturday. A live video stream of the
